Richa Chadha has been exploring writing in different forms, from the travel book she once set out to write to her YouTube series “Musafiri.” The “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar” actress reveals that she is now working on another book, one that took shape after she reconsidered what she wanted to say and how she wanted to say it. She confirms, “I’m writing a new book.”

Elaborating on the book, she tells Variety India, “It will be a mix of fiction and nonfiction. I think we need to relook at India. We need to learn about some aspects of what it has contributed to the world at large. We need to see how colonialism has shaped us or destroyed us. We also need to understand how to make sense of the current times and the generational upheaval we are seeing today.”

This isn’t Richa’s first attempt at writing a book. She says her YouTube show marks her writing debut. The actress also shares that before turning “Musafiri” into a show, she was writing a travel book commissioned by Penguin. “But this was what the book would have been about. In my mind, I thought, ‘Why don’t I just film this? That’s why it (the show) has that kind of writing. That’s why it’s a little bit poetic.’”

But why didn’t her earlier attempt to write a book come to fruition? Richa explains, “After I wrote the book, my thoughts about many things that were in it changed. If I no longer believed in it, how could I publish it?” She describes “Musafiri” as her gift to her daughter Zuneyra Ida Fazal and her generation, who the actor believes wouldn’t be as inclined toward reading books.
