Advance bookings for “Ramayana” opened in India on October 20, coinciding with Dussehra. While the film has received a strong response from audiences, tickets have been sold at exorbitant prices across many metro cities and tier-2 and tier-3 centers, with premium seats costing over ₹3,100.

With bookings for paid previews yet to open, ticket prices for the film’s opening day have already crossed ₹1,000 at several locations. The most expensive ticket currently listed is for a recliner seat in the IMAX auditorium at PVR ICON, Phoenix Palladium, Lower Parel, Mumbai. The recliner seat of the IMAX screen here costs ₹3,170.

At the other end of the spectrum, the cheapest ticket is for the Kannada version at KRG Soundarya Mahal A/C 4K Dolby in Doddaballapura, Bengaluru. Seats in the second-class section of the popular single-screen theatre start at ₹200.

With paid preview shows yet to be announced, it remains to be seen whether their ticket prices will be higher than those for the film’s first-day shows.

Touted to be one of the biggest Indian film productions to date, “Ramayana” stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, “KGF” star Yash as Ravana, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman. The pan-India ensemble cast also includes Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha, Arun Govil as King Dashrath, Indira Krishnan as Queen Kaushalya, Sheeba Chaddha as Manthara, Addinath M Kothare as Bharat and Kunal Kapoor as Lord Indra, among others.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios, in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, “Ramayana” retells the classic story of the battle between good and evil. Shot for IMAX with cutting-edge visual effects, this two-part saga aims to bring the Rama–Ravana story to audiences worldwide as an ambitious spectacle. The first part is scheduled to release in theatres on November 5, during the Diwali weekend.
