Ram Gopal Varma On Viral $200M AI Film Claim: ‘If This Is Not The End Of Films, I Don’t Know What Is’
The conversation around Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it will transform the cinema ecosystem is among the most debated hot-button topics right now. While filmmakers and artists across the world are taking sides — and audiences remain equally divided — the latest to weigh in on this is Ram Gopal Varma, who has been actively discussing the pros and cons of AI. The filmmaker recently reacted to a post on X that claims to have made a film using 100 percent AI.
The post in question is from a page called The Dor Brothers. Sharing a three-minute clip, the user claimed to have created a $200-million movie, entirely with AI, in just a day. Reacting to this, Ram Gopal Varma reshared the post on his handle and wrote, “If this is not the end of films, I don’t know what is. Watch till END.”
The post has since reached his followers, who are now reacting to it. One user wrote, “No matter what AI can do, sir. Cinema was invented by humans, progressed by them, made by them. People will always appreciate CGI and VFX made by people’s hands rather than just generating a prompt.” Another commented, “Another way to look at it is that everyone who has a dream to become a filmmaker can become one. AI is the new platform. No waiting in line to beg superstars, producers and directors, no casting couch, no budget issues. Storyline, screenplay and good use of AI is all that matters!”(sic)

Meanwhile, another filmmaker who recently expressed support for AI and revealed his wish to make a fully AI-driven short film is Rajkumar Hirani. In a conversation with Variety India, Hirani shared that he is genuinely excited about the possibilities AI presents.
“I’m excited about all things AI, and I want to make a short AI film… So, it is going to be a great tool, actually. We should start becoming friends with it very soon. It’s here to stay. It’s not that you have to use it or that you have to make a totally AI film.
“But we can use it to fill many gaps we couldn’t address earlier. It will make things cost-effective. And it’s not that a full-fledged AI film is easy to make. Okay, you’re not going on set, but it’s still time-consuming; making a full AI film requires considerable effort.”
