Nana Patekar Dies At 75 After Suffering Cardiac Arrest

Veteran actor Nana Patekar passed away after suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. He was 75.

The actor-director was reportedly found unconscious and rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. 

At 5: 20 am, he was declared dead.

"Despite 45 minutes of continuous CPR, he could not be revived. A medico-legal case (MLC) has been registered, and a post-mortem will be conducted," Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Chief of Oncology Department, Manipal Hospital, told news agency ANI. 

A detailed statement on the circumstances surrounding his death is yet to be issued by the authorities and his family members.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential personalities in Indian cinema, the late actor-filmmaker bagged several accolades and awards in his career of close to five decades including, three National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards, two Maharashtra State Film Awards and Filmfare Awards Marathi respectively. He was honored with the Padma Shri award in 2013 for his contribution in cinema and arts.

He was known for his powerful, intense and comic roles in films like "Angaar," "Parinda," "Tirangaa," "Krantiveer," "Taxi No 9211", and "Welcome," among others.

He made his directorial debut with "Prahaar: The Final Attack," in which he also portrayed an Army officer.  The film also featured Madhuri Dixit, Dimple Kapadia and Gautam Joglekar.

He was last seen in a cameo avatar in Anil Kapoor-starrer "Subedaar, " which was directed by Suresh Triveni.
