Mark Ruffalo Reacts To James Cameron Backing Paramount, Questions His Opposition to Netflix–Warner Bros. Discovery Deal
By Sakshi Navare
While the tug of war continues between Netflix and Paramount over Warner Bros. Discovery, Mark Ruffalo is the latest to weigh in. The actor has questioned filmmaker James Cameron’s letter opposing a Netflix acquisition of WBD while backing Paramount. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Ruffalo questioned whether Cameron would raise similar concerns about monopolization if Paramount were to win the bid.
Ruffalo, in a post on X, called out the “Avatar” director’s stance on the Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition row. The Hulk star wrote, “So… the next question to Mr. Cameron should be this… ‘Are you also against the monopolization that a Paramount acquisition would create? Or is it just that of Netflix?’”

He continued, “I think the answer would be very interesting for the film community to hear, and one that should be asked immediately. Is Mike Lee against the Paramount sale as well? Is he as concerned about that as he is the Netflix sale? We all want to know… speaking on behalf of hundreds of thousands of filmmakers worldwide.”
Dated February 10, 2026, Cameron’s letter to Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) voiced concerns about the theatrical future of films if Warner Bros. Discovery were acquired by Netflix, while also expressing support for Paramount. “The business model of Netflix is directly at odds with the theatrical film production and exhibition business, which employs hundreds of thousands of Americans,” Cameron wrote. “It is therefore directly at odds with the business model of the Warner Brothers movie division, one of the few remaining major movie studios,” an excerpt from the letter read.
Meanwhile, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos also responded to Cameron’s comments, saying he was surprised and disappointed that the director chose to be part of what he described as a disinformation campaign being run by Paramount.
