Amar Upadhyay On Netflix Launching Shows With Indian Television Stars: It Has Happened 20 Years Too Late (EXCLUSIVE)

“Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2” actor Amar Upadhyay is a happy man. His show has been a TRP-topper since the reboot of the iconic serial was announced. It tied for the top spot with “Anupamaa” in the latest TRP charts. Amar Upadhyay said, “We are very happy with the reaction. When the new season went on air, I was a bit concerned about how people would receive the same. There was some pressure too.” He credits the writers and Ekta Kapoor for its success. In the serial, we are seeing that Mihir (Amar Upadhyay) and Tulsi (Smriti Irani) are separated due to his relationship with Noina (Barkha Bisht). He adds, “It is good that the new season was adapted keeping with times with the changes in society. The stories of the young couples, the track and situations are all related to modern scenarios.” 
 

Some days back, Netflix India announced its slate for 2026. It has a number of shows that have TV actors in lead roles. A number of Indian TV producers are also making series for the global streaming platform. Over the years, Indian daily soaps have gained popularity in Eastern Europe, Africa and other parts of the world. When we asked Amar Upadhyay for his reaction on the same, he said, “This is a very delayed move, but the good thing is that it has finally happened. This should have happened 20 years ago. Indians are spread all over the world and have representation in every nation and industry. So, why were we left behind? Anyways, Indian shows are going global and this is great news for us.” 
 

Amar Upadhyay has been working across TV, films and OTT in the past few years. He is also a part of Hansal Mehta’s “Gandhi”. Arjun Bijlani, Helly Shah, Jennifer Winget, Shaheer Sheikh are some of the TV stars who have shows lined up for Netflix India. Amar Upadhyay made his debut on Indian TV with the popular sitcom “Dekh Bhai Dekh” and went on to became a household name with “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2”.
