Kiran Joneja on Breaking Into a Crowded Podcast Space: ‘Good Podcasts Always Succeed’ (EXCLUSIVE)

A veteran actor of over 50 films and TV serials and the producer and co-founder of the acting institute, Ramesh Sippy Academy of Cinema and Entertainment (RSACE), Kiran Joneja also happens to be a chat show veteran with four seasons of “Koshish Se Kamyabi Tak” behind her.

For those who came in late, Joneja is best known for her roles in “Buniyaad” (1986) and as the personification of the holy river Ganga in B.R. Chopra’s “Mahabharat” (1988).

From Soha Ali Khan to Rhea Chakraborty, everyone’s doing podcasts. Did you consider that the market is overcrowded before starting out?

I am ready to take on the challenge. What you say is true, but the good podcasts always succeed!

How will your podcast be different from the others?

I think everyone has a distinct personal style of interviewing people. As a chat show veteran, I like to believe that I reach deep into territories whereby a person opens up freely and completely to me and talks about things that he or she may not share with others.

How many episodes have you shot?

I am directing the show as well and I have shot two video episodes. I like to keep a bank of at least six to eight episodes before it is officially launched. “The Kiran Joneja Show” will have a much broader canvas besides cinema and will be streamed on Ramesh Sippy Entertainment channel on YouTube and also on my own to-be-launched channel.

What do you exactly mean by ‘broader canvas besides cinema’?

I will be conversing in-depth with successful people from different fields like politics, sports and medicine, besides religious leaders, motivational speakers and so on. From financial investments to health issues and more, we shall be discussing multiple aspects.

You are also doing a chat show for Doordarshan.

Yes, I am! “Guftagu” will typically feature only film celebs, because that’s what they specifically want from me!

This is a new busy phase for you after over 50 films and serials and other activities since the early 1980s.

Yes! I like to keep busy, and even did a show on Facebook during the pandemic! I was offered a key role in “Khosla Ka Ghosla 2,” and that started it all! It made me think that I must finally do my podcast too, as I had been planning one for years.
