Kapil Sharma To Headline a Web Series, Expands His Partnership with Netflix (EXCLUSIVE)

After recently announcing Season 5 of "The Great Indian Kapil Show," Kapil Sharma and Netflix India are further expanding their creative partnership. Variety India has exclusively learned that Sharma is now set to headline a web series for the streaming giant, making his foray into long-form storytelling.

Details of the project are currently being kept hush-hush, but sources say it's a comedy series and will go on floors next month outside India. Further strengthening the collaboration, Netflix has also acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights to Sharma's upcoming family-comedy feature film, "Daadi Ki Shaadi." Neetu Singh, Riddhima Kapoor, and Saida Khateeb also star in this Ashish R. Mohan directorial revolving around a lively family navigating the chaos and joy following their matriarch's decision to remarry.

From reigning television favourite to global streaming entertainer, Kapil Sharma has established himself as one of the biggest names in the Indian comedy scene. Over the years, he has also featured in films such as "Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon" (2015), "Firangi" (2017), "Zwigato" (2022) and "Crew" (2024). His last feature film, "Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2," failed majorly at the box office. The upcoming Netflix project will mark his first project in the long-form scripted series.

Meanwhile, the fourth season of "The Great Indian Kapil Show" has proved to be another success for both Sharma and Netflix. The new season has featured a diverse lineup of guests, including Priyanka Chopra Jonas, the Indian Women’s World Cup Champions, Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, along with leading Bhojpuri stars Manoj Tiwari, Pawan Singh, and Dinesh Lal Yadav. The upcoming guests set to grace the show are Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff, among others.
