Jaya Bachchan on Agastya’s career: ‘No power on earth can change my grandson’s destiny’ (EXCLUSIVE)

There's a certain section of the industry that feels that Jaya Bachchan's tumultuous relationship with the photographers who throng her at her many public appearances may have a part to play in her grandson (and Shweta Bachchan Nanda's son) Agastya's films' underperformance at the box-office and in public perception.

Bachchan's run-ins with Indian paparazzi has become stuff of legend. Every appearance of the veteran actress and Rajya Sabha member becomes fodder for fresh controversy, as the photographers allegedly try and provoke her to eke a reaction out of her.

While Agastya's talent is never called into question despite both his streaming debut "The Archies" on Netflix and "Ikkis" (theatrically) not doing as well as expected, whispers are already going around that the young actor's grandmother Jaya Bachchan’s equation with the paparazzi could likely be impacting his fledgling career.

Ask her about it and Jaya completely debunks the theory. “No power on earth can change my grandson’s destiny. If Agastya is destined to be a star, nothing can change it."

She offers her own husband Amitabh Bachchan as an example of how media perception didn't affect his career. "At the height of his stardom, Amitji was banned by the press for almost 15 years. How did that impact his career?," she asks.

Washing her hands clean of the insinuation that her equation with the paps are responsible for Agastya not getting his due, she has the last word: "Agastya will have his own equation with the press. It has nothing to do with me.”
