Rajinikanth-starrer “Jailer 2” has emerged as a certified box-office blockbuster. The comedy actioner has broken several records and is set to achieve another milestone at the ticket windows.

The film currently stands at ₹352.64 crore and will soon cross Ajay Devgn-starrer “Drishyam: The Conclusion” (₹363.25 crore*) to become the second-highest Indian grosser of the year after Ranveer Singh’s “Dhurandhar: The Revenge” (₹1,149.30 crore).

The original Tamil version has contributed significantly to the film’s collections, accounting for ₹248.58 crore, followed by the Telugu and Hindi-dubbed versions at ₹67.02 crore and ₹32.74 crore, respectively.

“Jailer 2” is expected to enjoy a free run in the domestic market until the arrival of Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi’s “Ramayana.” But immediate competition for the Rajinikanth fill will come from Suriya, Nazriya Fahadh and Naslen’s “Scene” and Nayanthara-starrer “Mookuthi Amman 2,” as both films will arrive during the Diwali weekend and take the maximum chunk of shows and screens.

“Jailer 2” sees Rajinikanth’s return as the iconic character, ‘Tiger’ Muthuvel Pandian. While Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, and Rithvik reprise their roles from the first installment, S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vidya Balan, Anna Rajan, and Jatin Sarna are new additions. The film also features star-studded cameos by Hrithik Roshan, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff.

Produced by Kalanithi Maran under the banner of Sun Pictures, the film marks a rare sequel in Rajinikanth’s career, as the actor has previously turned down several opportunities to revisit his blockbuster films. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, known for “Jailer,” “Doctor,” “Beast” and “Kolamaavu Kokila,” the film’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with lyrics penned by Arunraja Kamaraj, Super Subu, Vignesh Shivan, Vivek, Thamizh Aadhavan, and Heisenberg.
