How does it feel to be part of a commercial blockbuster?
It feels great to be part of a blockbuster. It’s an amazing feeling. Every actor dreams of being in blockbusters.
So how does blockbuster success change your career?
Well, blockbuster success… I don't know how it's going to change my career, but whatever it is, I hope it's going to be a good change. I hope I get good challenging offers. I hope I’m not asked to play cop roles over and over again.
What would you like to be offered?
More challenges, good screenplays, big characters., hopefully. Fingers crossed.
In many sequences, Ajay Devgn voluntarily takes a backseat while you take centre stage. Isn’t that unusual for a star?
Yes, he understood the requirements of the duel between us, the need of the script, that Vijay Salgaonkar has to feel seriously threatened by my character Rajveer Singh Tomar, before he takes drastic remedial action to save the family. So yes, his taking a backseat, as you say, was unusual. But, that's what Ajay Devgn Sir is: always true to the story.
Did you immediately say yes to ‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’?
I was struggling with the dates when I was offered this role. I just didn’t know how to accommodate this project in my schedule, much as I wanted to do it. But yes, mutually, somehow the producers and I managed and thank God that was a very wise decision. Role-wise, it was so powerfully written. It didn't take much time to say yes to that, creatively.
