From ‘Dhurandhar 2’ to ‘LOC: Kargil’: 5 Indian Films With Longest Runtime

Ranveer Singh’s “Dhurandhar 2” dominates headlines nationwide. The big-screen action spectacle, currently shattering pre-advance sales records, is officially one of the longest Indian films with a runtime of nearly four hours. As the film prepares for its grand release on March 19, here’s a look at five of the longest Indian films ever made.

‘LOC: Kargil’ (2003)

The epic flick was based on the Kargil War fought between India and Pakistan. Directed by J. P. Dutta, it featured an ensemble cast that included Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Suniel Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Rani Mukerji, and Kareena Kapoor, among others. With a runtime of 255 minutes (4 hours and 15 minutes), the film failed commercially at the box-office.

‘Mera Naam Joker’ (1970)

Although Raj Kapoor’s epic romantic drama was a massive flop during its release, over the years, it attained the status of ‘cult classic’ among cinegoers. Starring Rishi Kapoor, Simi Garewal, Kseniya Ryabinkina, Padmini, Manoj Kumar, Rajendra Kumar, Dharmendra and Dara Singh, “Mera Naam Joker” had a runtime of 248 minutes (4 hours and 8 minutes).

‘Sangam’ (1964)

The Raj Kapoor, Vyjayanthimala and Rajendra Kumar-starrer romantic musical drama was the first Indian film to be exclusively shot abroad in locations including London, Paris and Switzerland. The film, which emerged as a box-office blockbuster, has a duration of 238 minutes (3 hours and 58 minutes).

‘Dhurandhar 2’ (2026)

The Aditya Dhar-directorial, which features Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun among others, is expected to be a record-breaker at the box office. The runtime of the spy actioner is 235 minutes (3 hours and 55 minutes).

‘Lagaan’ (2001)

Aamir Khan’s epic period sports drama, which was the most expensive Indian film at the time of its release, had a runtime of 233 minutes (3 hours and 53 minutes). Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the film also featured Gracy Singh, Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne in key roles.
