Showrunners Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. are set to return with “Farzi 2,” which is expected to premiere by mid-2027. Variety India had exclusively learned that the new season has found its leading lady in Yukti Thareja. The black comedy crime thriller, whose first season premiered in 2023, was among the major successes in India’s streaming space for Prime Video. In the series, Shahid Kapoor plays Sunny, a disillusioned young man who turns to counterfeiting currency. In the first season, audiences saw Megha, played by Raashii Khanna, become romantically involved with Sunny while working to expose the fake-note racket.

For the second season, Yukti Thareja has been cast as Sunny’s love interest. Confirming the news, Thareja tells Variety India, “I’m playing the main female lead in ‘Farzi Season 2.’ I’m the only central female protagonist this season. All my scenes are with Shahid Kapoor. My character is a fearless Gen-Z woman who speaks up against the system. It’s a strong, layered role with real substance. I’ve already shot the majority of my portion, with about 20% left to complete, and the season is expected to release in mid-2027.”

Thareja has previously appeared in web series including “Hai Junoon! Dream. Dare. Dominate.” and “Delhi Crime Season 3.” She gained recognition with the music video “Lut Gaye,” which featured Emraan Hashmi. Sung by Jubin Nautiyal, the song has crossed 1.5 billion views on YouTube. Thareja has also appeared in the Malayalam action film “Marco.”

Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi will reprise his role as the hot-headed Special Task Force officer Michael Vedanayagam in the new season. The first season ended with Sunny and his best friend, Firoz (Bhuvan Arora), managing to escape Michael and crime kingpin Mansoor Dalal (Kay Kay Menon). With these two still in pursuit, the second season of "Farzi" will explore how Sunny and Firoz take their counterfeiting business forward while navigating the growing threats around them.
