RJ Mitte died by suicide, his rep has confirmed.
Mitte died Monday at 34. He was best known for his role in the Vince Gilligan-created drama “Breaking Bad,” in which he played Walter White Jr., the son of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Holly White (Anna Gunn). Like his “Breaking Bad” character Walt Jr., Mitte had cerebral palsy.
The Brownsville Police Department received a call at 12:50 p.m. local time and found Mitte dead at his home, People reported. “The cause and manner of death are still pending, as there is currently an ongoing investigation,” the BPD.Mitte appeared in all five seasons of the show, which ran from 2008 to 2013.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” his rep said in a statement earlier Monday. “Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion.”
After “Breaking Bad,” he had roles on “Switched at Birth,” “Robot Chicken,” “On Hiatus with Monty Geer,” “This Close,” “Now Apocalypse” and “The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!)” among others. He also appeared in films including “Dixieland,” “Who’s Driving Doug,” “The Recall,” “Mower Boy,” “Time Share,” “The Oak Room” and more.
Before starring on “Breaking Bad,” the actor appeared in short films including “Stump” and “Weird Science 2: Strange Chemistry,” as well as the film “House of Last Things.” At the time of his death, he had a handful of projects in pre-production and production phases, and was actively promoting his new movie, “Talking to Strangers.”
