New Celebrity-Led Reality Series, ‘Bhojpuri Bawaal’ to Spotlight India’s Heartland Culture (EXCLUSIVE)
India’s heartland is all set to get its own moment in the spotlight. JioHotstar and Colors are all set to spotlight the biggest names of Bhojpuri entertainment in a new reality series, “Bhojpuri Bawaal,” featuring Dinesh Lal Yadav (Nirahua), Pawan Singh, Amrapali Dubey, Kajal Raghwani and Tej Pratap Yadav.
The heavyweight names are only the tip of the iceberg. The series promises a first-of-its-kind “follow reality” format that taps into the personal and professional lives of these Bhojpuri celebrities. However, unlike run-of-the-mill reality shows, this one won’t manufacture drama by assigning elaborate tasks or conducting eliminations.

Instead, “Bhojpuri Bawaal” plans to let the camera step back and become a mute spectator, pursuing an immersive, intimate look behind the stage curtains. The series will offer viewers a look at every facet of Bhojpuri superstardom: The savory bits, which include fame, popularity, celebrations and ambition; and the not-so-savory bits, like rivalries, controversies and the unrelenting hustle.
India’s heartland has always had the best stories to tell. Whether it's electoral votes or YouTube views on their songs and music videos, this culture is raking in numbers yet remains slotted into certain stereotypes that keep it from becoming mainstream.

It’s safe to speculate, then, that after the explosion of the Punjabi music scene and South cinema, the next cultural wave could just come from the towns of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The regional entertainment industries, and particularly the Bhojpuri industry, is poised to overcome the “regional” tag.
Already, the larger-than-life Bhojpuri celebrities have quite the cult following, waiting to be leveraged. Bhojpuri music, films and series have always had a finger on the pulse of mass entertainment, blending it with a taste of real, raw and earthy emotions that resonate with the people of the country. And this new series might just tap into this bottomless well and mine some gold.
