‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!’ Actor Aasif Sheikh: ‘Today’s Generation Of Actors Lack Commitment’ (EXCLUSIVE)

“Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!” is one of the longest-running sitcoms on Indian TV. The first episode aired on March 2, 2015 and it completed a decade effortlessly. Veteran actor Aasif Sheikh is one of the pillars of the show. He admits that he has let go of many web series and film projects for “Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!.” He tells us, “Actors who do comedy roles are limited. There are many producers and directors who come to me but Bhabiji is my priority. I cannot make the show suffer. I want to give it my best. Once the show ends maybe I do web series or films. I have had to let go of web series as they have asked for 30-45 days at a stretch for shoot. It is impossible to allot time when you are on a daily show. I do ad films and theatre in between to get away from the character of Vibhuti. As long as I am enjoying what I am doing, I will continue. Once I stop enjoying acting I will move on. I feel this is the best platform.”

When we discuss how the team is blessed, “Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!” has had such a long run, he said it has taken a lot of commitment. Aasif Sheikh admits that TV as a medium is struggling as young people have plenty of entertainment options. Discussing the topic of shows going off air within months, he says channels too do not have much choice. He also said that young actors somehow do not have the same level of commitment as veterans.

He states, “Everything comes down to numbers by the end of it. The channel is not sitting there to do charity. It does not matter if the cast is old or new. I see that commitment is missing in young actors. There is no creativity. For them, TV is fast food and they treat scenes like food wrappers. For us, it was a do-or-die situation. Today’s generation lacks commitment. When we started we were very sincere, while this lot wants to wrap up things quickly. I believe if they are talented, they will get work irrespective of whether their first show ends abruptly or not.”
