Behind KATSEYE’s Manon Bannerman’s ‘temporary hiatus’: The story so far

KATSEYE member Manon Bannerman has been the topic of discussion since last evening. The singer, 23, is on temporary hiatus from all group activities. It seems she wants to focus on her health and well-being for an unspecified period of time. Fans were informed about the same on KATSEYE’s official page on WeVerse. The message read, “After open and thoughtful conversations together, we are sharing that Manon will be taking a temporary hiatus from group activities to focus on her health and wellbeing.”

Clarifying that the singer, label and group are on the same page, it further read, “We fully support this decision. KATSEYE remains committed to showing up for one another and for the fans who mean everything to us. The group will continue scheduled activities during this time, and we look forward to being together again when the time is right. Thank you to our EYEKONS for your continued love, patience, and understanding.” The notice was signed “HxG,” for the joint labels of HYBE and Geffen Records.

Fans of KATSEYE known as EYEKONS have been wondering what could have potentially gone wrong with Bannerman. The group was nominated at Grammy Awards 2026 for their song, “Gabriela”, which was a part of their Extended Play, “Beautiful Chaos.” They also performed at the Grammy Awards on “Gnarly.” The news was instantly picked up by all media outlets, and fans began to wonder if everything was fine with the girl group.

Bannerman went on Weverse and posted, “I want you to hear this from me, I'm healthy, I'm okay, and I'm taking care of myself. Thank u for checking in! Sometimes things unfold in wats we don't fully control, but I'm trusting the bigger picture. Thank you for standing by me. I love you endlessly and can't wait to see you again.”

As fans began to debate on what could have exactly happened behind closed doors, more drama was added to the matter. They noticed how Rafael Avanzini, who is the father of Daniela Avanzini, replied to one comment on Instagram. He wrote, “The show must go on! With or without a member. KATSEYE is bigger than one girl." This has further upset EYEKONS and Manon’s solo fans. They spotted more comments from him like, “We need girls who can grind. KATSEYE is powerhouse. The show must go on,” and “Comeback when you are ready to work,” under a video.

In 2024, Megan Skiendiel, who is also a KATSEYE member, suffered a minor back strain and took a temporary break. This happened when they were promoting in South Korea. The matter was addressed in great detail, which left no room for ambiguity. We have to wait and watch if HYBE and Geffen decides to release a more detailed statement on the same to address the matter.

Bannerman missed the Summer Sonic concert in Japan in August 2025 as her condition deteriorated after arriving to the country. In December 2025, she sat out of the Seattle concert due to an illness. She was born in Lucerne, Switzerland has Swiss, Italian and Ghanaian ancestry.

KATSEYE has six members who are Sophia Laforteza, Yoonchae, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, Daniela Avanzini and Manon Bannerman.
