Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan to share screen space in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ sequel?

Amitabh Bachchan has posted to his Tumblr that he "has begun work" on the sequel to "Kalki 2898 AD" (2024), starring him in a pivotal role in a cast that had Prabhas and Deepika Padukone in leading roles and Kamal Haasan as the main antagonist, Supreme Yaskin.

The Telugu sci-fi hit grossed over ₹1,000 crore worldwide and is one of the highest grossing Indian films. Bachchan, who's active on Tumblr, shared images showing his prep for the shoot of the sequel to the film, with some images showing him warmly greeting Kamal Haasan.

Interestingly, while both Haasan and Bachchan were in the original "Kalki," they had no scenes together. With Big B's pics about the meeting going viral, it has sent theorists speculating that the two will likely share screen space in the sequel.

Shooting has begun for the film and Bachchan notes that he was joyful about "meeting up with the great Kamal Haasan" noting "we shall be working together after ages [41 years to be exact]... last in 'Giraftar'" (1985).

The images show the two legends amid set cranes and equipment. The sequel will be directed by Nag Ashwin, who also directed the first film. Prabhas will return as Bhairava and Bachchan as Ashwatthama, but Deepika Padukone, who played Sum80 (pronounced 'Sumathi'), has exited the film. Rumor mills suggest that Sai Pallavi is being considered for the role.

Kamal Haasan is making it something of a habit, reuniting with his old co-stars. His recent 'KHxRK reunion glimpse' with Rajinikanth (after a 46-year gap) was all the rage on social media when it dropped over the weekend.
