For the longest time since it was first announced, the buzz has been that the Meghna Gulzar directorial, “Daayra,” headlined by Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, would be her first “songless” film.
But at the film’s trailer launch, in response to a question, Meghna revealed that there would be one song and that it would play at the “end of the film” and that her father, the celebrated lyricist, Gulzar, agreed to come on board on learning that it was required.

Variety India reached out to the song’s composer Amit Trivedi who reconfirmed the news with a terse “We did record a song” and reiterated Meghna’s words regarding the track’s placement in the film: “It comes towards the end of the film. And it plays over the end credits as well.”
He doesn’t disclose the singer’s name, saying he doesn’t believe “it will be the right time for it.” He adds that the lyricist Gulzar has worked with him in the past on ad films including one for a leading aback and for a shampoo brand.
Trivedi calls the experience of working with the veteran a “great” one. When reminded of the generation gap between the two, he points out, “I have worked with Javed saab, too.

Three decades ago, Gulzar had written the lyrics for a Nirmal Pandey-Sonali Kulkarni film called “Daayraa” directed by Amol Palekar, with music by Anand-Milind.
