Aamir Khan’s priority shifts: ‘Now I’m focusing only on myself as an actor’ (EXCLUSIVE)
Aamir Khan’s fans have wondered why the superstar hasn’t been starring in films of late, and rightfully so. The actor’s filmography is hailed as one of the best in Bollywood; perhaps, even in Indian cinema. From blockbusters to cult classics and socially relevant films, his repertoire is a fan’s delight and an actor’s envy.
He took a long break after the debacle of Laal Singh Chaddha (2022) before announcing his next Sitaare Zameen Par (2025). But we might see a shift soon.
In a candid conversation with Variety India, Aamir Khan confirmed that his top priority at this moment was to focus on his acting. He is stepping away from his big role at his production house, Aamir Khan Productions, to focus on his craft and films.

He tells us, “Internally, I've taken a big decision. My company Aamir Khan Productions is now being headed by Aparna Purohit. All the projects that we had greenlit before she came on board, are all releasing in 2026. There is ‘Happy Patel’, which just released and ‘Ek Din’ and ‘Lahore 1947’ will also release.”
He adds, “Aparna is highly capable of handling the entire production house on her own. Of course, I am there if needed, but I want her to independently run AKP. That’s my state of mind right now. I am quite excited about reading different stories and am wondering what to pick next.”
Khan admits that his role as a producer consumed all his energy given how involved he is in all aspects of filmmaking. On a lighter note, he assured his fans that films produced by him had a hundred per cent of commitment from him even though he was not acting in those productions. He further stated, “When I’m the main producer who is handling all the projects, I get fully involved. From greenlighting the project, to putting the project together, getting the cast and crew, prepping the film, I am there. And when I'm involved with anything, I get fully involved in it. So, in films like ‘Happy Patel’ or ‘Ek Din’, I'm not acting in them. I mean, in ‘Happy Patel’, I've got a small cameo. But if it's my film, like ‘Laapata Ladies’, even if I'm not acting on it, that doesn't mean there is any less of me in it. So the moment I'm producing and acting, obviously, my acting time gets reduced, you know? I can't give that much time to myself as an actor, I have to focus on my films, which I've taken on as responsibilities. For the last few years, I had to focus on two things. Now I'm focusing only on myself as an actor.”
