Where Are Bombay Rockers Now? The Duo Behind ‘Aari Aari’ Returns With ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’

“Dhurandhar: The Revenge” has dominated mainstream headlines today with the release of the first song from its album, “Aari Aari.” While the track is already gaining traction, curiosity had begun building when it was teased in the trailer, where fans quickly spotted the rendition of the popular Bombay Rockers song. For many younger listeners unfamiliar with the group, the teaser sparked a wave of curiosity about the duo behind the original hit.

Released in the early 2000s, “Aari Aari” was composed and performed by the Bombay Rockers, a duo comprising Navtej Singh Rehal and Thomas Sardorf. The track was a chart topper at the time, and with its return to the mainstream through “Dhurandhar: The Revenge,” it appears poised to find a new generation of listeners.

Bombay Rockers are a Danish Indian music duo who made a significant mark on the international music scene. Their debut album reportedly sold over 100,000 copies, an impressive number for independent artists at the time. The collaboration began in 2003 when Danish Indian singer Navtej Singh Rehal, also known as Naf, met Danish producer Thomas Sardorf and Janus Barnewitz of the Scandinavian production team WCA. The artists began collaborating in Denmark, blending Punjabi influences with Western production styles.

Their frequent jam sessions soon resulted in several popular tracks. Their breakthrough collaboration was “Aari Aari,” a song rooted in Punjabi folk tradition but given a contemporary Western twist. The track received extensive airplay in Denmark before spreading internationally and quickly becoming a party anthem.

Over the years, the duo earned widespread acclaim, performing at festivals, achieving platinum certification and topping Indian album charts for 15 consecutive weeks. Their debut album was eventually released across 32 countries, cementing their presence on the global music map.

The duo later returned to Bollywood with “Rock Tha Party” in Rocky Handsome, starring John Abraham. Another version of “Aari Aari” was also featured in the film Satellite Shankar.

After a long hiatus, the duo recently shared a post about “Aari Aari” from “Dhurandhar: The Revenge” on their official Bombay Rockers Instagram page, hinting at what could mark their return to the music scene. The duo released their last album in 2011, “Rock and Dhol”.

The version featured in the Ranveer Singh starrer is composed by Shashwat Sachdev and sung by Navtej Singh Rehal (Bombay Rockers), Shashwat Sachdev, Khan Saab, Jasmine Sandlas and Sudhir Yaduvanshi. The rap portions are written and performed by Rebel and Token, while the lyrics are credited to Irshad Kamil and Bombay Rockers. The video captures the raw rage of Hamza as he continues his takeover, this time seated on the throne, hinting at the scale and intensity of the sequel.

“Dhurandhar: The Revenge” is set to release worldwide on March 19, 2026.
