What’s Next for Michael B. Jordan After ‘Sinners’? From Netflix’s ‘Swapped’ to ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’
By Sakshi Navare,
After the Oscar-winning run of “Sinners,” Michael B. Jordan is not slowing down. The actor, who just came off one of the biggest moments of his career with the Ryan Coogler directorial, is now moving into a very different phase with a mix of voice work, studio filmmaking and another major star vehicle already lined up.
The first big reveal is Swapped, Netflix’s upcoming animated feature that has now debuted with its first official trailer. The film is set to release on April 3, 2026, and marks Jordan’s first confirmed project to arrive after the success of “Sinners.”
Directed by Nathan Greno of “Tangled” fame, “Swapped” also features Juno Temple and Tracy Morgan in the voice cast. The screenplay is credited to John Whittington, Christian Magalhaes and Robert Snow.
The trailer opens with a brief live-action appearance from Jordan, who appears alongside his nephews to introduce the film with a playful countdown. Once the animated world kicks in, Jordan voices the central character, a woodland creature who, along with a bird friend voiced by Temple, finds himself stuck in a body-swap situation. The two then head into a chaotic forest adventure that seems packed with physical comedy, conflict and the usual lessons about perspective and friendship. It is clearly a much lighter pivot after the intensity and scale of “Sinners.”
And that shift alone makes “Swapped” interesting. After leading a dark, prestige-heavy film that went on to dominate the awards conversation, Jordan following it up with a family-friendly animated feature is not the most obvious move, but it does show range and smart timing.
“Swapped” is not the only thing on Jordan’s slate. One of his biggest next steps is already locked in at Amazon MGM Studios, where he is set to direct, produce and star in a new version of The Thomas Crown Affair. The film is currently dated for March 5, 2027.
This new take on “The Thomas Crown Affair” is being positioned as a stylish heist film centered on a wealthy art thief, but Jordan has suggested it will also lean into romance and a more personal emotional angle. He has described it as an international thriller with higher stakes and a stronger character core than earlier versions.
The cast for the film already makes it one to watch. Alongside Jordan, the project will also feature Paapa Essiedu and Aubrey Plaza as per reports. With Jordan both in front of and behind the camera, the film also continues his larger move toward becoming a more full-scale studio filmmaker, not just a leading man.
