Three-Way Clash in December 2027: ‘The Housemaid Secret,’ ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Lock Horns

The makers of Sydney Sweeney and Kirsten Dunst's thriller “The Housemaid's Secret” announced the sequel thriller's release date on social media. The film is set to have a global release on December 17, 2027.

The sequel to 2025's “The Housemaid,” adapted from Freida McFadden’s novel, has Sydney Sweeney reprising her role. Michele Morrone also returns, while Kirsten Dunst joins the cast for the first time.

Interestingly, the film has locked a release date, which already sees the arrival of two big-ticket movies with “Avengers: Secret Wars” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.”

While “The Housemaid” turned out to be a huge global success with a business of $400 million, the clash of its sequel with two bigger franchises might make it difficult to find a good number of screens at the box office.

“The Housemaid 2” will pick up from the first part, where Millie (played by Sweeney), the live-in maid with a troubled past. In the second part, Millie is expected to be in more unsettling and darker situations.

Interestingly, Lionsgate had optioned McFadden’s novel trilogy before the books emerged as the bestsellers.

Paul Feig returns to direct the sequel after helming the first part, while the script is penned by Rebecca Sonnenshine. It is bankrolled by Feig and Laura Fischer for Pretty Dangerous Pictures, Todd Lieberman for Hidden Pictures and Sweeney for Fifty-Fifty Films.
