‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ Set To Crush ‘Pegasus 3’ To Become 2026’s Biggest Global Grosser

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is dominating the first quarter of 2026 with $631,501,585 (gross) and is still going strong at the box office. The animated adventure comedy film based on Nintendo's "Mario Bros" video game franchise is soon expected to surpass the lifetime business of “Pegasus 3” ($640,986,686) to become the highest worldwide grosser of the year.

Over the past few years, Hollywood animation films have performed very well at the global box office. In 2022, “Minions: The Rise of Gru” and “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” were among the top 10 worldwide grossers. On the other hand, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” was the second-highest global grosser of 2023.

In 2024, “Inside Out 2” was the biggest earner, with “Moana 2,” “Despicable Me 4” and “Kung Fu Panda 4” among the top 10 earners.

Last year, “Ne Zha 2” and “Zootopia 2” were the top 2 grossers, while “Lilo & Stitch” and “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba: Infinity Castle” made it to the top 10 list.

“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” features Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black and Keegan-Michael Key reprising their roles, with Benny Safdie, Donald Glover, Glen Powell and Brie Larson being new additions.

The film is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic with music by Brian Tyler. Nintendo is producing the film along with Illumination.
