‘The Pitt’ Star Shawn Hatosy Teases Possible Night Shift Expansion in Season 2
By Sakshi Navare,
The Pitt star Shawn Hatosy has teased a possible expansion of the night shift in the award-winning medical drama, currently in its second season. Hatosy, who portrays Dr. Jack Abbot, addressed growing fan interest in seeing more of the show’s night shift characters.
Speaking to People, Hatosy said, “There’s been a lot of talk about the night shift. That would be really cool. We could do some cool, interesting things with the tone of the show.” He added that he believes his character chose the night shift because “it’s a certain kind of group of misfits that work together at night.” At the same time, he noted that “everything is great” with where The Pitt currently stands.

Hatosy also addressed speculation surrounding Dr. Abbot and whether he would become a full-time doctor in the second season, only to instead find himself moonlighting with a SWAT team. “Then they came back to me to suggest that he’s in the E.R. in the middle of the season and I was like, what does that mean? Why am I coming in the middle? Am I dying? Am I coming in on a gurney?” he said.
While his character may not be a full-time presence in the emergency room, Dr. Abbot remains an integral part of the second season. Hatosy also opened up about directing an episode in addition to appearing on screen.
“I was like, I don’t know if I can do Abbot and be a director at the same time. And then I went home that night and thought, ‘Did I just talk myself out of a job?’ So I made sure to call him and say, ‘I didn’t mean that I don’t want to direct, period.’ And then I think in season 2 somebody ended up not being able to do it, and I was able to step in,” he shared.
