‘The One About Matthew Perry’: Everything We Know About Netflix’s Three-Part Docuseries
Netflix is set to revisit the life and career of Matthew Perry with “The One About Matthew Perry,” a three-part documentary series arriving nearly three years after the “Friends” star’s death. Directed by Emmy winner Mary Robertson, the series will premiere globally on Oct. 27, 2026. Here’s everything currently known about the documentary series.
What is “The One About Matthew Perry” about?
The series will trace Perry’s journey from a rising comedic actor to global fame as Chandler Bing on “Friends,” while also examining the private struggles that existed alongside his public career. It will feature firsthand accounts from people who knew him closely, including his sister, lifelong friends and creative collaborators.
Perry played Chandler across all 236 episodes of “Friends,” which ran from 1994 to 2004. The role made him one of the most recognisable television actors of his generation, but his career extended beyond the sitcom, with film, television and stage work.

The documentary will also examine Perry’s long battle with addiction, a subject he discussed openly during his lifetime and explored in his 2022 memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.”
Who from Perry’s family will appear?
Perry’s younger sister, Mia Perry Bowick, is one of the key voices in the series. Bowick, a licensed psychotherapist, writer and speaker, will share previously unheard memories of her brother and discuss his life away from his public image.
The series also draws on the Perry family’s private archive, incorporating previously unreleased photographs and videos. Netflix has not announced a complete list of interview subjects, but the project includes Perry’s lifelong best friends and creative collaborators.
Mary Robertson directs the series and also serves as an executive producer. Her documentary credits include “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” and “The Fall of Diddy.”
“The One About Matthew Perry” is produced by Maxine Productions, a part of Sony Pictures Television. Lisa Kalikow, Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman also serve as executive producers, with Lora Moftah as co-executive producer and Jessica Call as producer.
Perry died on October 28, 2023, at his Los Angeles home. He was 54. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined that the cause of death was the acute effects of ketamine, with drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine listed as contributing factors.
When does “The One About Matthew Perry” release?
The three-part documentary series premieres globally on Netflix on October 27, 2026. Netflix has not yet announced individual episode titles, runtimes or whether any of Perry’s “Friends” co-stars will appear in the series.
