‘The Boys: Mexico’: Everything You Need to Know as Eric Kripke Confirms Major Development Update

After spending nearly three years in development, “The Boys” spinoff, “The Boys: Mexico,” is finally beginning to show some real movement. Eric Kripke, showrunner of the original series, has now confirmed that a draft of the pilot has officially been submitted to Amazon and that the streamer has already responded with revisions.

Set in Mexico, the upcoming spinoff is being written by “Blue Beetle” scribe Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer and executive produced by Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal, with Kripke also attached. It has already been confirmed that the series will take place after the events of “The Boys” Season 5, leaving enough room for characters from the flagship show to potentially cross over into the new story.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Kripke confirmed that the writing team has indeed delivered a pilot draft to Amazon and that the early response has been encouraging.

“Yeah. They just delivered a draft of the pilot to Amazon,” Kripke said. “Amazon seemed to really like it and seemed to be making all the right noises. They gave some notes, so we're gonna incorporate those notes. Gareth [Dunnet-Alcocer], who is the writer, is so smart and good. He'll do, I'm sure, another draft. But it feels like... who the hell knows? You can never predict this stuff, but we're hopeful.”

Kripke also addressed the broader future of “The Boys” universe and suggested that while the franchise may continue expanding, it does not necessarily need to become heavily interconnected in the traditional franchise sense.

“I don't know. I think it's too early to say,” he said. “These things will organically take their own shape. The main thing about the VCU, as we call it, is the tone is the brand. I don't think the shows have to be all that connected, moving forward. I think it's an interesting universe. It's really irreverent, and as long as we can maintain that irreverent, shocking, fun, emotional tone, then I'm open to any story in that universe, as long as it clears a particular bar of quality.”

The update arrives just hours before “The Boys” Season 5 premieres on Prime Video. Since the fifth season will mark the end of the original series, whatever unfolds there is expected to play a key role in shaping what comes next for “The Boys: Mexico.”

And it is not the only expansion already in the works. Prime Video is also developing “Vought Rising,” a prequel series that has reportedly wrapped production and is eyeing a 2027 release. Set in the 1950s, the show will see Jensen Ackles return as Soldier Boy alongside Aya Cash as Stormfront, and is expected to explore the early origins of some of the universe’s most important characters. There is also growing buzz around a third season of “Gen V,” though that project has not yet been officially confirmed.
