Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna’s Film With Amit Sharma Is a Generic Rom-Com With a Sci-Fi Twist (EXCLUSIVE)
Variety India recently reported that Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna are set to reunite for another film even before their first collaboration, “Cocktail 2,” releases in theatres. The yet-untitled project will be directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, best known for “Badhaai Ho” and Ajay Devgn’s “Maidaan.” Now, Variety India has learnt additional details about the film that are likely to further build anticipation.
According to sources, Shahid and Rashmika will play a married couple in the romantic comedy. The story follows a husband and wife whose relationship has hit rock bottom and who are seriously considering divorce. However, their lives are thrown into disarray when a scientific experiment goes wrong, leading to comedic chaos, along with unexpected emotional revelations about their marriage. The film is being described as a light-hearted, feel-good entertainer packed with witty gags, humorous situations, and an absurd yet engaging premise.

Shahid’s most recent foray into the rom-com genre was “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” (2024), in which he falls in love with a robot. With this latest project, he once again embraces a quirky, unconventional idea, this time with a sci-fi twist. The film promises a blend of romance and comedy, with Shahid and Rashmika expected to share a more personal and emotionally layered on-screen dynamic compared to the breezy, modern relationship set-up of Homi Adajania’s “Cocktail 2.”
Sunir Kheterpal, who previously worked with Shahid on Ali Abbas Zafar’s “Bloody Daddy,” will produce the film in association with Jio Studios. The project is scheduled to go on floors around August-September 2026.
Meanwhile, Shahid’s “O’Romeo” released in theatres yesterday to a positive response. The Vishal Bhardwaj-directed gangster thriller collected ₹8.25 crore net on its opening day, marking a solid start. Up next, Shahid begins shooting for Raj and DK’s “Farzi” Season 2, before moving on to Amit Sharma’s rom-com. “Cocktail 2” is expected to release in the second half of this year.
On Rashmika’s front, she has recently wrapped the first schedule of Atlee and Allu Arjun’s ambitious actioner. She is set to marry her longtime boyfriend Vijay Deverakonda later this month, before appearing opposite him in the historical epic “Ranabaali,” scheduled for release on Sept. 11, 2026. She also has “Mysa” slated for release later this year.
