Harvard University SAA Honors Sayani Gupta As The South Asian ‘Person of the Year’ (EXCLUSIVE)
Harvard University SAA is honoring actor Sayani Gupta as the “Person of the Year”. It is a top honour recognising South Asian ‘excellence in talent’ who have made a global impact with their work and cultural contribution.
“As Harvard’s premier organization celebrating South Asian culture, creativity, and leadership, we annually recognize an individual whose work has meaningfully shaped how South Asian identity is expressed and understood in public life. Sayani’s performances have consistently challenged conventions and brought depth, boldness, and authenticity to contemporary narratives, making her a compelling voice in shaping more inclusive storytelling,” wrote Harvard University South Asian Association.
Sayani is receiving this top Harvard award for her 'powerful contribution to film, storytelling, and representation'. Last year Chef Vikas Khanna received the same award. Sayani will be honoured at Harvard University at the end of this month. She is also debuting as writer/director this year and her short film, *Aasmani* is set to World Premiere at the 59th WorldFest Houston on April 25 and the Indie Meme Film Festival in Austin on April 26.
She has a long-standing international presence in cinema. An alumna of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII, Pune), Sayani has built a compelling career across film, theatre and streaming, carving out a unique space for herself through brilliant performances, a dynamic body of work, and consistent quiet courage. This massive recognition from Harvard SAA establishes Sayani as a major global South Asian voice to reckon with.
