‘Ranabaali’ Teaser Review: Vijay Deverakonda Leads a Ruthless Fight Against British Oppression With Rashmika Mandanna
A drought and famine-stricken land, Rayalaseema, which is in modern-day Andhra Pradesh, forms the background of the upcoming Telugu-language film “Ranabaali”. The British Raj, which spanned from 1858–1947 in India, stripped the country of much, especially its manpower. The film brings attention to the Great Famine of 1876–1878, which caused millions of deaths under British rule, by taking inspiration from it and presenting a warrior in the face of dissent.
Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, the new teaser introduces the titular character, played by Vijay Deverakonda, who appears as the messiah of the people. While being bogged down by the rule of the British antagonist, Sir Theodore Hector, played by Arnold Vosloo.

It starts off with brutality against commoners as they struggle to gain even a single morsel of food. With the entry of Hector, things go further downhill for everyone as he gets rid of anyone acting out. Soon, a quiet protest begins with the appearance of beheaded British bodies as Deverakonda returns the favor much more loudly and mercilessly.
The outcry spreads as more join in, women and children alike, including his own wife, Jayamma, played by Rashmika Mandanna. They charge with machetes, taking down any enemies that stand in their path to freedom and food. A raw cry escapes Ranabaali, who demands justice for each of the 8 million lives lost, unfettered by their numbers and asks for their rightful food ration. He causes havoc in Hector’s life, turning a foe out of him.
Deverakonda’s presence is fierce and commands every scene he appears in. His anger is apparent and palpable throughout the teaser, making for a compelling case for the film. Rebellion forms the core of the story, with the people becoming the face of dissent. Fans of the actors can expect a total shakedown from the people of the Rayalaseema region, led by Deverakonda and Mandanna.
“Ranabaali” runs in theaters from October 16 onwards.
