Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s “Ranabaali” has opened at ₹16.50 crore worldwide, according to Sacnilk estimates, as the period action drama faces competition from Rajinikanth’s “Jailer 2”. Released in cinemas on Friday, October 16, the Rahul Sankrityan directorial collected ₹9.25 crore net in India on its first day. Its India gross stood at ₹10.75 crore, while overseas markets contributed ₹5.75 crore to its worldwide opening.
The opening places “Ranabaali” below Vijay’s recent big-screen outings “Kingdom” and “Liger” in terms of domestic net collections. It has, however, opened ahead of “The Family Star”, which collected ₹5.75 crore net in India on its first day.
“Ranabaali” was screened across 2,515 shows on its opening day. Its reported worldwide gross of ₹16.50 crore gives the film a sizeable start, although the coming weekend will be crucial in determining whether it can sustain its theatrical run.

“Ranabaali” has fallen short of the opening-day collections of two of Vijay’s previous releases. “Kingdom” opened at ₹18 crore net in India, while “Liger” collected ₹16 crore net domestically. In comparison, “Ranabaali” earned ₹9.25 crore net on Friday.
Vijay’s “The Family Star” registered a weaker opening at ₹5.75 crore net in India. “Ranabaali” has comfortably surpassed that figure, but its opening remains below the numbers recorded by “Kingdom” and “Liger”.
Rajinikanth's "Jailer 2” arriving a day before “Ranabaali” in cinemas has added to the competition for screens, particularly in the Telugu-speaking states. Rajinikanth’s sequel opened on October 15 and continued its theatrical run on Friday, potentially affecting the number of shows available to competing releases.
Ahead of “Ranabaali’s” release, concerns had been raised over its advance bookings amid the strong buzz around “Jailer 2”. The two films belong to different genres, with “Ranabaali” positioned as a period action drama set against the backdrop of the Madras Famine of 1876–78.
“Ranabaali” brings Vijay and Rashmika together on screen following their collaborations in “Geetha Govindam” and “Dear Comrade”. It also marks Vijay’s third collaboration with director Rahul Sankrityan, following “Taxiwaala” and “Shyam Singha Roy”.
