Advance bookings for “Ramayana” opened on Dussehra, with tickets going on sale for the film’s original Hindi version. However, bookings were delayed by a few hours amid a dispute between producers, distributors and exhibitors over the revenue-sharing model.

Once bookings opened, the Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi-starrer received a positive response at the ticket windows. According to Recobee.AI, the film sold 74,000 tickets worth ₹3.8 crore in less than 24 hours. With the film scheduled for release on November 5 and paid previews set for a day earlier, “Ramayana” still has around two weeks to build its advance sales.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari of “Dangal,” “Chillar Party,” “Chhichhore” and “Bawaal” fame, the film is produced by Namit Malhotra and Yash under the banners of Prime Focus Studios, DNEG and Monster Mind Creations. Besides the lead cast, the film features Ravie Dubey, Sunny Deol, Anupam Kher, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Kunal Kapoor, Addinath M. Kothare, Arun Govil, Indira Krishnan and Lara Dutta in prominent roles. Based on Valmiki’s ancient Sanskrit epic, the film chronicles Lord Rama's life and trials in Ayodhya.

The film is co-written by Shridhar Raghavan along with Nitesh Tiwari, with the director sharing the dialogue credits with Shreyas Jain. A. R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer have collaborated to compose the music and score, marking the Hollywood musician’s full-fledged debut in the Indian film industry. Zimmer had previously contributed the track "To the Moon" to the soundtrack of Sonu Sood-starrer and directorial “Fateh.” The lyrics for “Ramayana” are penned by Kumar Vishwas.

Mahesh Limaye (of “Dabangg” franchise, “Fashion” and “Natarang” fame) and Pankaj Kumar (of Tumbbad, Haider and Ship of Theseus fame) have handled the cinematography department, while the editing is done by Huzefa Lokhandwala.
