Actress & MP Jaya Bachchan and India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s verbal spat goes viral
By Purba Dutt,
The drama unfolded right after the Finance Minister was through with the budget discussions on the entertainment industry. At this point, an irate Jaya Bachchan launched into a scathing attack on the FM, saying, “ You are a great storyteller, ma’am. Congratulations. For us, great entertainment. You have given very good answers. But I am speaking about the entertainment industry and rising ticket prices. We are among the highest tax-paying individuals.”
A visibly agitated Nirmala Sitharaman gave it back to Jaya Bachchan. In what could be perceived as a snub to Jaya Bachchan, the FM reminded her that ticket prices, entertainment taxes, all come under the purview of the state government and have nothing to do with the Center. “On the specific concern she raised- that the industry is suffering due to high ticket prices- I must humbly submit that entertainment tax and ticketing are state subjects. There is no point in asking me,” Sitharaman replied.
Not surprisingly, the video of this heated verbal explosion between the two has had a field day on social media.
