‘Project Hail Mary’ Box Office: Ryan Gosling’s Space-Fiction Flick Opens Strong Despite Limited Screens

Amid the dominance of “Dhurandhar 2,” Ryan Gosling-starrer “Project Hail Mary” arrived yesterday (Thursday) at the Indian box office. The Hollywood biggie struggled to find screens in the metrocities due to the dominance of Ranveer Singh’s spy actioner.

Despite these hurdles and a very limited release, the space fiction film opened well, collecting ₹2.46 crore (gross ₹2.90 crore). With a great hike in the number of screens, “Project Hail Mary” is expected to witness more than 100 per cent at the ticket windows today, followed by an upward trend over the weekend.

At the global box office, the film has grossed $162,397,189 and is currently the eighth highest-grosser of the year, as per Box Office Mojo.

Based on the novel by Andy Weir (author of "The Martian"), the film follows Ryland Grace, played by Ryan Gosling, a lone astronaut who wakes up aboard a mysterious spacecraft with no memory of his identity or the mission that brought him there.

Directed by the filmmaking duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, Project Hail Mary also features an ensemble cast, including Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung and Milana Vayntrub.

It is produced by Amy Pascal, Ryan Gosling, Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, Aditya Sood, Rachel O'Connor and Andy Weir under the banners of Lord Miller Productions, Pascal Pictures, Open Invite Films and Waypoint Entertainment.

Apart from its original language, “Project Hail Mary” has also been released in dubbed versions of Hindi, Tamil and Telugu across other premium large formats.
