‘Patriot’: Release of Mammootty-Mohanlal-starrer Faces Uncertainty After Dispute Over Revenue Sharing

By Sakshi Navare

“Patriot,” the big-budget Malayalam flick featuring the ensemble cast of Mammootty, Mohanlal, Fahadh Faasil, Nayanthara and Kunchacko Boban, has run into trouble after the Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) opposed its theatrical release following a dispute over revenue sharing.

FEUOK members shared that the cinema halls under the organization would not screen “Patriot” as the producer Anto Joseph has demanded a 60 per cent share of the collection during the first two weeks.

The usual practice for Malayalam films released in theatres under the body is a 60:40 collection ratio in the first week, followed by 55:45 in the second week, said a FEUOK member to PTI.“However, the producer is demanding that the 60:40 ratio continue for the first two weeks. As theatre operators are already reeling under a severe financial crisis, such an agreement on revenue sharing cannot be accepted,” he said.

The organization maintained that if the arrangement of such revenue sharing is accepted, considering the budget of the film, other producers might have a similar demand in the future.Joseph also shared that he learned that the organization’s decision and discussion on the issue will soon be held.

The producer said he made this demand due to the budget of “Patriot,” but assured there won’t be any issue with its theatrical release. He added that this matter will be taken to the Kerala Film Producers Association. Directed by Mahesh Narayanan of “Take Off” and “C U Soon” fame, the film is scheduled to release on April 23.
