NSD Students’ Union Extends Solidarity to Student Protesters

The National School of Drama (NSD) Students' Union has issued a statement condemning the alleged police action against students protesting at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, while extending its solidarity to those participating in the demonstrations.

In a statement released on its official social media channels, the Students' Union expressed its "deep concern and strong condemnation" over the alleged lathi charge carried out by Delhi Police on what it described as peaceful student protesters.

"As students of a national institution dedicated to art, culture, and democratic expression, we believe that peaceful protest is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution of India," the statement read. "The use of force against unarmed students exercising their democratic right to assemble and raise their voice is unacceptable."

The Students' Union said it stands "in complete solidarity" with the students gathered at Jantar Mantar, adding that it will stand with them "in all odds and fouls."

Calling for restraint, the statement urged Delhi Police to "uphold democratic values" and ensure that "such acts of excess are not repeated," while asserting that "the space for dissent must be protected."
