Konkona Sen Sharma: ‘Many Accused of Sexual Harassment Are Thriving; How Many Have Read the Hema Committee Report?’
By Sakshi Navare
Konkona Sen Sharma is currently awaiting the release of her Netflix film “Accused,” which is set to premiere on February 27. In the film, Konkona portrays a London-based doctor facing allegations of workplace sexual harassment.
The actress recently spoke about the landmark Justice Hema Committee report that laid bare the rampant harassment and sexual violence prevalent in the film industry.
“It's just a very unfortunate situation. This is the reality we all know; we know the people who have been accused and we can see so many of them thriving. A lot of that is actually dependent on us, on all of us as a society, who we choose to work with, whose work we want to watch, how many opportunities do we give these people,” Konkona told PTI.

Talking about the Hema Committee Report, she added, “The Hema Committee has brought out a report. How many people have actually read it? How widely has it been circulated? Some good things may have come out of it, in terms of infrastructure, some committees and structures have been put in place on a film set, or in any work environment. But ultimately, what comes of it, a lot of that depends on us and how we deal with it as a society.”
The Hema Committee Report highlighted the issues faced by women in the Malayalam film industry and shared shocking accounts of harassment, exploitation and ill-treatment women are subjected to.
“Accused” is written by Sima Agarwal and Yash Keswani, and has been directed by Anubhuti Kashyap. It also stars Pratibha Ranta of “Laapataa Ladies” fame. The movie is bankrolled by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawala and Somen Mishra.
