‘Jailer 2’ Box Office: Rajinikanth’s Film Sparks Massive Pre-Release Buzz Despite Low-Key Promotions (EXCLUSIVE)

Rajinikanth’s much-awaited “Jailer 2” is gearing up for a grand Pooja festival weekend release on October 15 in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Nelson’s big-budget pan-India action entertainer is produced by Sun Pictures, and the promotions are in full swing. An invite-only “Jailer 2” rave took place on September 30, along with the launch of the complete album, instead of the traditional audio launch.

Fans were expecting a big-ticket audio launch — a fixture of every major Rajinikanth release. These events usually see Rajinikanth deliver a short speech packed with punchlines, which the national media often pick up and amplify the film’s buzz. His speeches have regularly gone viral around release time. But with Tamil Nadu’s political atmosphere currently highly charged, the makers and the superstar may have preferred to avoid anything that could trigger unnecessary controversy.

The biggest strength of this sequel to the 2023 blockbuster “Jailer” is its massive multi-star cast. Alongside Rajinikanth are Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Jackie Shroff, SJ Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Ramya Krishnan and Yogi Babu. The film also boasts an array of special appearances, including Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Vijay Sethupathi, Hrithik Roshan and others.

Anirudh’s music is expected to be another major calling card, especially after the chart-busting soundtrack of “Jailer.” The newly released peppy dance number “Bindaas,” featuring Nora Fatehi, is already adding to the musical buzz.

Now, all eyes are on the “Jailer 2” trailer, which is expected to drop in the next few days. South Indian producers are increasingly keeping trailer launches closer to release, partly to minimize the window for online trolling and unnecessary controversies. Recently, Nani’s “The Paradise” arrived without a trailer, and industry veterans believe the mystery factor contributed to its earth-shattering opening. For now, fans have received “Jailer 2”’s video reel introductions positively, keeping the excitement alive.

The film’s censor certificate has become a talking point. Rajinikanth is reportedly keen on a UA certificate. “Coolie”’s ‘A’ certificate is believed to have limited its reach among Rajinikanth’s core family and younger audience. On the business front, the film’s theatrical rights are said to have been sold across territories. Trade reports suggest the makers are looking at around ₹125 crore for the Tamil Nadu theatricals. Sun Pictures has traditionally released several of its films through Red Giant Movies.

Trade pundits are already projecting a massive ₹800–1,000 crore global gross. The big question: Can Jailer 2 become the first Tamil film to cross the ₹1,000-crore milestone? The countdown has begun!
