Harry Styles Performs New Song ‘What Is Enough’ to Honor Liam Payne on His Second Death Anniversary
Harry Styles debuted a new song during a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden on October 16. As part of his 30-day residency at the New York location, Styles spoke about his former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne on the 23rd night. Payne passed away exactly two years ago on this day. Titled “What Is Enough,” the song stands as a tribute to their friendship.
“I feel incredibly lucky to get to play these shows here in New York, and this building means a lot to me,” he began while talking about Payne’s passing and added, “There are so many people in my life, friends and people that I’ve worked with that I wouldn’t have been able to do this without. And two years ago today, I lost one of those friends.”

He addressed his fans’ personal losses in his next words, “I’m sure a lot of you have been through similar things. I hope you haven’t. But really, it’s just about looking after each other. So many people who have touched my life in such special ways; I wouldn’t be here without. I’m gonna play you a song I wrote for my friend about two years ago, if that’s all right.” Styles then performed “What Is Enough” live for the first time.

Fans have reacted positively to the song, with many taking to social media to share their thoughts about it. Harry Styles previously hinted at taking another break from music while announcing an extension to his ongoing “Together, Together” tour in 2027.
With “What Is Enough”, the 32-year-old joins fellow band members Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, who have all publicly grieved through music for their late friend. The five-piece was formed on the reality show “The X Factor”. The singers went on to become international sensations, then went their separate ways after Malik’s exit in 2015, but promised to return as One Direction someday.
