‘God of War’ Reveals First Look As Amazon Prime Video Series Officially Begins Production

The world is set to witness another live action adaptation of a popular video game following the success of ‘The Last of Us’, with ‘God of War’ being reimagined as a long format web series for Amazon Prime Video’. Ever since the announcement, fans have eagerly awaited updates, and the makers have now unveiled the first look from the show, offering an intriguing glimpse into what lies ahead.

The first look still also confirms that filming is currently underway in Vancouver. Sharing the image on their official X page, the makers captioned it, “Father and Son. Behold your first look at Kratos and Atreus in the God of War series now in production for @primevideo. Their journey to the highest peak begins.”

The series features a sprawling ensemble cast. Max Parker plays Heimdall, while Ólafur Darri Ólafsson steps into the role of Thor. Mandy Patinkin portrays Odin, with Alastair Duncan as Mimir. Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka appear as the dwarf brothers Brok and Sindri, and Ed Skrein takes on the role of Baldur.

The show follows the latest installment of the ten game franchise, shifting its focus from Greek mythology to the Norse realm. It centres on Kratos, who lives in exile and is raising his ten year old son, Atreus, after the death of his wife, Faye. Honouring her final wish, he sets out to scatter her ashes from the highest peak in the realms. The series traces the emotional and perilous journey of the father and son duo as they confront gods and monsters alike.

Amazon Prime Video has already greenlit two seasons of ‘God Of War’. Ronald D. Moore serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner under his Tall Ship Productions banner. Frederick E. O. Toye will direct the first two episodes. Executive producers include Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee and Brad Van Arragon, with Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia and Ben McGinnis serving as co executive producers.
