ENHYPEN: BELIFT LAB Confirms Heeseung’s Exit As Protests Intensify On All Fronts; says, ‘We Decided To Respect That’

The departure of Heeseung (real name: Lee Heeseung) from ENHYPEN has met with widespread protests from the fandom of the K-Pop boy band. From protest trucks outside the HYBE Building in Seoul to one million signatures on a global petition website, fans have gone all out to criticize the agency. In a brief statement to The Korea Herald, BELIFT LAB reaffirmed that Heeseung's exit from ENHYPEN is permanent. The media portal quoted a source from the agency, saying, "Heeseung will not be returning to Enhypen. He has a clear artistic direction he wants to pursue, and we decided to respect that.” In a letter addressed to the fans, Heeseung had stated the same, saying that he had been preparing independent projects for a while now. He also said he did not wish to prioritize his own ambitions ahead of the group.

The international fan community of ENHYPEN has been in an uproar ever since the news broke out. They said that multiple K-Pop artists are pursuing solo careers along with being part of a group. Some of the notable examples are BTS, BLACKPINK members, and Hwasa. They have blamed the agency for not creating a schedule that can sustain an artist's career individually whilst being part of a boy band. Fans feel the blame lies solely on the shoulders of the agency.

Speculations have been running wild throughout fan communities in Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Many feel there is more than what meets the eye. A petition on the platform Change.org reached over one million signatures while Heeseung's name had 65 million engagements on X within three days after the news of his exit was made official.

This whole fiasco again brings focus to whether artists truly have the creative freedom they desire while being with a group or a label. Over years, the iron-clad contracts of K-pop artists have come under immense scrutiny. ENHYPEN fans feel Heeseung can have a successful solo career without breaking away from the group. After the exit of Seunghan from RIIZE in October 2024 due to the 'girlfriend controversy,' Heeseung's departure is one incident that has caught the attention of every K-Pop fan irrespective of group and fandom.
