Ekta Kapoor cites ‘Best Interest of industry’s eco-system’ as reason for Delaying ‘Bhooth Bangla’ Release

Priyadarshan's horror-comedy 'Bhooth Bangla' shifted its release date from April 10 to April 17. Explaning the delay of the film, producer Ektaa Kapoor cited exhibitor requests, “Dhurandhar: The Revenge”’s strong box office run, and unavailabilty of theatres as the reasons. The film will now hit the big screen with paid previews beginning at 9:00 PM on April 16, 2026.

The film has been in the news due to the delay, but the studio has made no official announcement.  Now, the makers have officially confirmed the postponement. Explaining the decision, producer Ektaa Kapoor said the move came after discussions with exhibitors and distribution partners across key markets.

“After an extensive discussion and multiple requests from our distribution partner & exhibitors across key markets, we decided to postpone the release of 'Bhooth Bangla' by one week. We remain committed to delivering a great cinematic experience and are confident that this decision will benefit audiences and let the film have a powerful run at the cinemas,” Kapoor said.

She further adds that the decision was also influenced by the ongoing theatrical performance of “Dhurandhar: The Revenge.” “'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' is currently enjoying an exceptional run at the box office, which is great news for producers at large. Our exhibitors felt that giving it a clear, uninterrupted window would be in the best interest of the industry ecosystem,” she said.

Kapoor added that the one-week shift would allow both films more breathing room at the box office. “By moving 'Bhooth Bangla' ahead by a week, we ensure that both films get the theatrical space, marketing focus, and audience attention they truly deserve. We believe this approach benefits everyone — the filmmakers, the exhibitors, and most importantly, the audiences who experience each film without compromise. We will always prioritise the comfort of theatre-going audiences and strive to entertain them in the best way possible with our films,” she concludes.

“Bhooth Bangla” marks the much-awaited reunion of Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar, a duo that has previously delivered some of Hindi cinema’s most beloved comedy hits.
