By Sakshi Navare

It is the morning after the 79th British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) held in London last night, and the glamorous event continues to make waves. But amid the many awards, winning speeches and candid moments, the In Memoriam segment stood out for featuring legendary Indian superstar Dharmendra, who passed on in November last year. He was honored alongside some of the world’s most celebrated names who died last year.

At the Royal Festival Hall, singer Jessie Ware took the stage to perform a rendition of “The Way We Were” by Barbra Streisand. The performance played alongside a montage honoring artists we lost in 2025. The segment remembered several global legends across industries, including Diane Keaton, Terence Stamp, Catherine O’Hara, Rob Reiner, Dharmendra, Gene Hackman, Robert Duvall, Tom Stoppard, Brigitte Bardot, Lalo Schifrin, Michael Madsen and Val Kilmer.

Dharmendra being honored at BAFTA 2025 quickly dominated social media, with fans expressing deep emotion.

Known for films like “Sholay”, “Mera Gaon Mera Desh”, “Seeta Aur Geeta” and “Chupke Chupke”, Dharmendra’s charm and acting caliber defined an era of Hindi cinema. The actor worked until the very end and was last seen in Sriram Raghavan’s ‘Ikkis,” which released on January 1, 2026.

India had another notable moment at BAFTA 2026 when actress Alia Bhatt took the stage to present the award for Best Foreign Language Film. The "Gangubai Kathiawadi" star wore a custom Gucci gown for the gala, instantly becoming one of the evening’s highlights.
