‘Chiraiya’ Star Prasanna Bisht And Mihir Ahuja Team Up For Aditya Chandioke’s New Dramedy (EXCLUSIVE)

Prasanna Bisht, who drew attention for her performance in “Chiraiya,” has begun shooting her next feature film opposite Mihir Ahuja. The yet-untitled project, directed by Aditya Chandioke, is a small-town dramedy set in Ujjain and draws heavily from the culture, language and social fabric of the city and is centered on everyday relationships, humor and life in central India. The new film marks her return to feature films and sees her paired with Ahuja for the first time. Chandioke’s directorial credits include “Greater Kalesh” and “Baat Pakki.”

For Mihir Ahuja known for "The Archies," "Maa Ka Sum," and "Super 30", the project represents an opportunity to step into unfamiliar territory. To prepare for the role, the actor says he immersed himself in the local culture and worked on the dialect to prepare for the role. “I genuinely feel like I’m stepping into a world I’ve never explored before as an actor. I’ve never played a character from Ujjain, and that comes with its own rhythm, innocence, body language and way of speaking. I wanted to approach the role with complete honesty, so I’ve been spending a lot of time understanding the Ujjaini and Malwai dialect, the culture and even the little nuances in how people communicate there,” the actor tells Variety India.

The actor says the emotional simplicity of the script was one of the biggest reasons he signed on to the project. “What really attracted me to the script was its simplicity and heart. There’s a certain warmth and humour in this story that instantly connected with me. The tone of the film has that light-hearted dramedy space where emotions feel organic and humour comes naturally from situations and people,” Ahuja says.

The film is currently in production and follows a workshop-driven preparation process led by director Aditya Chandioke before principal photography began. “Working with Aditya Chandioke has been an amazing experience. He has a very clear and sensitive vision as a director. We did workshops before starting the actual shooting for this project. He understands characterisation and storytelling beautifully and creates a very comfortable environment for actors to experiment and perform honestly,” says the actor.

He also speaks about sharing screen space with Prasanna Bisht. “I’m also really excited to be working with Prasanna. She’s a very sincere performer and brings a lot of authenticity to scenes. I think audiences will enjoy the chemistry and energy this film brings,” Ahuja adds. Production for the film is currently underway.
