Box Office Prediction: Siddhant Chaturvedi-Mrunal Thakur’s ‘Do Deewane Seher Mein’ And Taapsee Pannu’s ‘Assi’ To Rely Heavily on Word of Mouth

‘It’s proving to be a lackluster February so far for Bollywood as none of the releases, including “O’Romeo,” “Vadh 2” and “Tu Yaa Main,” have delivered at the box office.

There are two Hindi films releasing tomorrow (February 20) — Siddhant Chaturvedi-Mrunal Thakur-starrer “Do Deewane Seher Mein” and Taapsee Pannu’s “Assi.” We will have to wait to see the kind of reception they get at the box office.

While the genre and treatment of both films are poles apart, with Siddhant and Mrunal’s movie being a love story and the Taapsee starrer being a hard-hitting courtroom drama, they ultimately cater to multiplexes and metro cities’ audience. The buzz for both films is minimal and cinegoers have not been overly curious or excited about them. Therefore, if the films have to perform well at the box office, they will have to rely heavily on word-of-mouth publicity.

As per Variety India, “Assi” is expected to open between ₹1.5 and 2 crore, while “Do Deewane Seher Mein” will take an opening of ₹2-2.5 crore. Since the appeal of both releases has been rather muted, it will be critical for them to find appreciation to generate footfalls.

Directed by Ravi Udyawar of “Mom” and “Yudhra,” “Do Deewane Seher Mein” is produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Prerna Singh, Umesh Kumar Bansal and Bharat Kumar Ranga in association with Ravi Udyawar Films.

On the other hand, “Assi” is directed by Anubhav Sinha and bankrolled under the banners of T-Series and Benaras Media Works. It also features Kani Kusruti, Revathy, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Naseeruddin Shah, Supriya Pathak and Seema Pahwa in supporting roles.

The film marks the reunion of Anubhav Sinha and Taapsee Pannu after “Mulk” and “Thappad.”
