BLACKPINK’s Jennie Announces ‘Less than a Lover’s Release on July 24
Jennie has shared plans to drop a digital single marking her return with new music following her feature on the remix of Tame Impala’s "Dracula" earlier this year. To be called “Less than a Lover,” the song is set to release on July 24 at 12 am EDT/1 pm KST.
In cover art shared by the songstress and her one-person label, ODD ATELIER, she can be seen leaning on a man in a secluded alley. Following images from the release showed them stealing a romantic moment behind a parked car and running freely along a field. The song’s description reads, “The summer I chose to pause the love story,” hinting at a romance-filled storyline in the lyrics and possibly even the music video.

Apart from singing and starring in the song, Jennie is said to have been a part of the music video direction, lyrics and musical production of the song. The track is not a surprise for fans who already heard it at her recent performances at the Governors Ball Music Festival, Roskilde Festival, Open'er Festival and Mad Cool Festival.
It will involve a lo-fi sound paired with guitar and a vintage electric keyboard and aims to "show a different side" of Jennie.

It is her first non-feature release since dropping her debut solo studio album “Ruby,” which was released on March 7, 2025. She has since gained viral fame thanks to the success of the track called “Like JENNIE.” Since then, the singer has been a part of the K-Pop girl group BLACKPINK’s “DEADLINE” album release with a world tour alongside fellow members of the team, Jisoo, Rosé and Lisa.
The 30-year-old will next be seen at Lollapalooza music festival in the US later this month, followed by an appearance at Japan's Summer Sonic 2026.
