Jayasurya's latest film, “Aadu 3,” has become one of the fastest movies in Malayalam to enter the ₹100 crore club within a week of its theatrical release. In an interview with Variety India, Midhun Manuel Thomas, the director of Aadu 3, discussed the update of the sequels to his earlier investigation thrillers – “Anjaam Pathiraa” and “Abraham Ozler” – while savouring the success of this recent slapstick comedy.
The director revealed that the sequels to his previous films, “Anjaam Pathiraa” and “Abraham Ozler,” will not be happening anytime soon. "I'm not working on any of this right now. I wrote a script for “Anjaam Pathiraa,” but it didn't work out as I expected. In a similar vein, I am aware of what happened to Abraham Ozler's missing family, which is the primary gripping point by the conclusion of the Jayaram-starring investigation thriller, but I don't yet have a solid script for it. Therefore, I have left it that way and moved on to fresh projects," he said.

Midhun continued by saying that he is pleased when people keep asking him about these sequels, as it brings him some excitement to consider working on their scripts. “I am currently working on a big-budget action thriller which will have some big names in the cast. An official announcement on the same will be out soon,” he said. Meanwhile, Midhun is set to make his OTT directorial debut with a Malayalam web series, “Anali,” which will release on JioHotstar soon.
Speaking about the high expectations that “Aadu 3” led to before its premiere, Midhun said that he experienced varying degrees of nervousness from each movie in this film series. "As the first part had a dismal theatrical run and worked among the audience following its online release, my only goal when writing for “Aadu 2” was to make it work in the theatre. The sequel did really well, much beyond our expectations, and brought in a huge fan following for the franchise. Initially, the genre shift in “Aadu 3” was tricky for me, and I am now confident for the next part, “Aadu 3: The Last Ride,” seeing the audiences’ rave response for the third instalment,” the director said.
According to Midhun, he unintentionally ended up making comedy films. "I learned that I could handle this genre when writing for “Ohm Shanthi Oshaana.” I have always wanted to make more thrillers," he said. The director also disclosed that, even though he is aware of how unpredictable the industry can be, failure still hurts, particularly when a movie doesn't perform as well at the box office and with viewers as he was hoping for. One such instance is Abraham Ozler. "Taking on a new project is the only way I can get over this disappointment," he stated.
