After Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt, Mamitha Baiju Becomes Third Indian Actress To Score Three ₹200 Crore Grossers In A Year
Mamitha Baiju is enjoying a breakout year at the box office with a remarkable streak of commercially successful films. The actress has now joined Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt as the third Indian actress to feature in three films that have each crossed the ₹200 crore mark worldwide in a single calendar year.
What makes her achievement particularly impressive is that her three films were released within 23 days. Starting with Thalapathy Vijay’s “Jana Nayagan,” the farewell film of Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, hit the screens on July 23 and earned ₹324.38 crore at the global box office. It is currently the highest Tamil grosser of the year.
Her next was “Vishwanath and Sons” opposite Suriya, which released during the Independence Day weekend and collected ₹203.26 crore* worldwide. The rom-com family drama is nearing the end of its theatrical run and is expected to finish at ₹210 crore.

After featuring in two successful Tamil films, Baiju’s third release was the recent Malayalam blockbuster “Bethlehem Kudumba Unit” opposite Nivin Pauly, which arrived in cinemas during the festive weekend of Onam. It currently stands at ₹238.05 crore* and will soon surpass the ₹250 crore mark.
In 2013, Deepika Padukone featured in four films, of which three - “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” (318 crore), “Chennai Express” (₹310 crore) and “Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela” (₹218.07 crore) - crossed the ₹200 crore mark. Alia Bhatt joined the club in 2022 with “Gangubai Kathiawadi” (₹211.50 crore), “RRR” (₹1230 crore) and “Brahmastra Part One: Shiva” (₹431 crore).
What sets Baiju’s achievement apart from Padukone and Bhatt is that, unlike the other two actresses’ films, which had a wide market in North India, her movies achieved this feat in just a single primary state. “Jana Nayagan” and “Vishwanath and Sons” earned majorly in Tamil Nadu and “Bethlehem Kudumba Unit” scored big in Kerala. The contribution to these films from the rest of the Hindi states is almost negligible.
Baiju’s run is therefore notable not just for the ₹200 crore milestone, but also for how quickly and regionally she has achieved it.
