Aditya Roy Kapur’s Next With Dharma Productions Is a Slasher Comedy (EXCLUSIVE)

After Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, OK Jaanu and Kalank, Aditya Roy Kapur is once again teaming up with Dharma Productions. But not for a pure horror thriller, as has been widely reported.

Industry sources reveal that Kapur’s upcoming Dharma project is a slasher comedy that blends horror elements with satire, absurdity and dark humor. Plot details remain under wraps, but the film is expected to follow the conventions of the slasher subgenre while subverting them with a tongue-in-cheek approach. Expect a film that pokes fun at horror clichés while still delivering scares, with witty dialogue, campy performances and over-the-top gore.

The yet-untitled film will be directed by Collin D’Cunha, marking his feature directorial debut. He previously directed two Amazon Prime Video series for Dharmatic Entertainment: Ananya Panday’s Call Me Bae and the Tamannaah Bhatia- and Diana Penty-starrer Do You Wanna Partner? Pre-production is currently underway, with casting for other pivotal roles in progress. Shooting is expected to begin in May 2026.

The film also signals Dharma Productions’ continued experimentation with genre storytelling. The banner is already working on a creature comedy, Naagzilla: Naag Lok Ke Pehla Kaand, starring Kartik Aaryan. The Aditya Roy Kapur project will mark the Karan Johar-led company’s third foray into the horror space, following earlier titles such as Kaal (2005) and Bhoot – Part One: The Haunted Ship (2020). The latter, starring Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar, was initially planned as the first installment of a franchise but did not receive a sequel after underperforming at the box office.
