Yash Decodes ‘Ramayana’ ₹4,000 Crore Figure: ‘It Is the Budget for the Two-Part Film, Including Release and Promotion’
Yash has clarified that the much-discussed ₹4,000 crore figure attached to “Ramayana” does not represent the budget of the first part alone. The actor said the amount covers the two-part epic, including its release and promotional costs, explaining that the figure follows a global approach to film budgeting.
Speaking on “Aap Ki Adalat,” where host Rajat Sharma asked Yash about the scale of “Ramayana” compared with his previous work, Yash said, “That is a misconception, so let me clarify it to everyone. ₹4000 crore is the budget for the two-part film, including release and promotion. It is the same as Hollywood."
He added, "Our partner (Namit) said this after including all that. Wahan ka maths waisa hi hota hai (The math there is like this). A budget equal to the film, or sometimes more, they spend on promotion because it is global. But the revenue is global too.”

Yash said the investment is part of a larger ambition to take Indian cinema to audiences around the world. Calling cinema “a soft power,” he argued that the Indian industry needs to think beyond domestic markets and build films with genuine global reach.
“Cinema is a soft power. All of us have to work really hard towards it,” he said. “Whatever happens, we will work hard and do our job properly. If not today, then tomorrow we’ll make it happen.”
The actor added that India needs to seize the opportunity rather than allow other film industries to occupy that space. “If we don’t, someone else will, but it should happen. That is what I feel,” he said.
Yash linked that ambition to both of his major upcoming projects. “Ramayana,” directed by Nitesh Tiwari, stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, with Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. The first part is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release in November 8, 2026, in India and November 6, 2026 worldwide with the story being told across two films.
“Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups,” directed by Geetu Mohandas, stars Yash alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth. The film is scheduled to release worldwide on August 26, 2026.
“Both Ramayana and Toxic are attempts to position Indian cinema as global films,” Yash said.
